Canada has four levels of court: the Supreme Court of Canada; the Federal Court and the Federal Court of Appeal, as well as provincial and territorial courts of appeal; provincial and territorial superior courts; and provincial and territorial (lower) courts.

  • Which court system is the highest in Canada?

The Supreme Court of Canada is the court of last resort (or the highest court) in Canada.
As the final general court of appeal it is the last judicial resort of all litigants.
Its jurisdiction embraces both the civil law of the province of Quebec and the common law of the other nine provinces and three territories.

  • How does the court system work in Canada?

The court system is roughly the same across Canada.
Except for Nunavut, each province has three levels: provincial and territorial, or lower, courts; superior courts; and appeal courts.
The Nunavut Court of Justice has a single-level trial court.1 sept. 2021

  • There are three levels of courts, similar to those described below, in every Canadian province: Provincial Court, Court of King's Bench, and the Court of Appeal.
Appeals can be made from a lower court to a higher court.
There are also some federal courts that deal with matters such as citizenship and income tax.
