What is cefpodoxime proxetil?
Cefpodoxime proxetil is an orally administered, extended spectrum, semi-synthetic antibiotic of the cephalosporin class. The chemical name is (RS) 1(isopropoxycarbonyloxy) ethyl (+)-(6R,7R)-7-[2-(2-amino-4- thiazolyl)-2-{(Z)methoxyimino}acetamido]-3 methoxymethyl-8-oxo-5-thia-1-azabicyclo [4.2.0]oct-2-ene- 2-carboxylate.
How do I use Cefpodoxime?
Use Caution/Monitor. Applies to didanosine chewable tablets and powder for oral solution; administer 2 hr before or several hours after didanosine oral solution or chewable tablet administration cefpodoxime will decrease the level or effect of dienogest/estradiol valerate by altering intestinal flora.
What are the pharmacokinetic parameters of Cefpodoxime?
In patients with normal renal function, neither accumulation nor significant changes in other pharmacokinetic parameters were noted following multiple oral doses of up to 400 mg Q 12 hours. Protein binding of cefpodoxime ranges from 22 to 33% in serum and from 21 to 29% in plasma.
How much Cefpodoxime is excreted in vivo?
Over the recommended dosing range (100 to 400 mg), approximately 29 to 33% of the administered cefpodoxime dose was excreted unchanged in the urine in 12 hours. There is minimal metabolism of cefpodoxime in vivo.
