There are no specific lab tests to identify ankylosing spondylitis.
Certain blood tests can check for markers of inflammation, but many different health problems can cause inflammation.
Blood can be tested for the HLA-B27 gene.
How do you diagnose axial spondyloarthritis early?
Clinical features include inflammatory back pain (IBP), alternating buttock pain, enthesitis, arthritis, dactylitis, acute anterior uveitis, a positive family history, psoriasis, inflammatory bowel disease, and good response to NSAIDs.
Does axial spondyloarthritis show up on MRI?
According to the classification criteria, MRI of sacroiliitis combined with at least one specific clinical feature in a young adult with chronic back pain has 97.2% sensitivity and 94.2% specificity for the diagnosis of axial spondyloarthritis [3, 7].
What is the best treatment for axial spondyloarthritis?
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are usually the first treatment for axSpA.
