memory b cell antibody production

  • How do memory B cells produce antibodies?

Each B cell produces a single species of antibody, each with a unique antigen-binding site. When a naïve or memory B cell is activated by antigen (with the aid of a helper T cell), it proliferates and differentiates into an antibody-secreting effector cell.
  • How do you make memory B cells?

The preventative injection of a non-pathogenic antigen into the organism allows the body to generate a durable immunological memory. The injection of the antigen leads to an antibody response followed by the production of memory B cells.
  • How long does it take memory B cells to make antibodies?

At day 0, someone catches a virus. At day 10, her B-cells start making antibodies, and by day 15 she's made enough antibodies to destroy all the viruses.
  • Memory B cells are a B cell sub-type that are formed following a primary infection. In the wake of the first (primary response) infection involving a particular antigen, the responding naïve cells (ones which have never been exposed to the antigen) proliferate to produce a colony of cells.
