mos technology 6502 microprocessor

  • Is the MOS 6502 still made?

As one of the most widely used microprocessor architectures of all time, the CMOS related form of the 6502 developed by the Western Design Center is still in production today, with an estimated six billion units so far produced.
  • What is MOS Technology 6502 structure?

The 6502 is strictly an 8-bit architecture, with a single 8-bit accumulator register, and can access a maximum of 64K bytes of random access memory. Memory addresses are exactly 16 bits in length, because 216 = 65536 = 64K.
  • What is MOS in microprocessor?

Short for metal-oxide semiconductor, MOS is a method of creating transistors. MOS consists of three layers, a metal conductor, insulating silicon layer, and a semiconductor silicon layer.
  • The 6502 chip is made up of 4528 transistors (3510 enhancement transistors and 1018 depletion pullup transistors). (By comparison, a modern Xeon processor has over 2.5 billion transistors, which would be almost hopeless to try to understand.)
