What is the reaction between phenol and phthalic anhydride?

    Principle: This reaction is an example of condensation of phenol with carboxylic acid or carboxylic acid anhydrides. Two moles of resorcinol condense with one mole of phthalic anhydride to produce flourescein. Chemicals:Phthalic anhydride – 1.5gm Resorcinol – 2.2gms. Apparatus: Conical flask, oil bath, stoppered tube, mortar, thermometer.
